If nothing else, 2020 and the COVID pandemic has taught us that working from home can make for a better work-life balance.

Before that, many people myself included struggled to see the viability of remote working.

Flash forward to today and a Big Five company has announced permanent work from home arrangements for staff.

Add to that, the majority of workers would prefer to work in the office for only two days or less.

A remote working trend has been set in motion and it is not going to be reversed.

1 Keep Work and Home Separate

Many people working from home over the lockdown periods reported decreased mental health from an inability to separate work and family life.

Reasons range from an inability to wind down after work hours ended, a tendency to work longer hours and through illness. Some people reported missing the social interaction that the work environment provided.

You will need to put some mental framing in place to help create a much-needed divide between work and home.

For example, start work and end at the usual time. Perform a routine activity that marks the end of the workday and enables you to switch track effectively— read a book, take a walk, watch a show.

2 Set up a ‘Productive’ Workspace

Information technology is critical to making your remote working environment effective.

You will want to invest in getting the right communication devices to guarantee that the quality of your work remains intact.

Most companies will be amenable to lending employees office equipment that is no longer in use.

It will be prudent to invest in a decent table and chair that provide the appropriate physical support to your body through your workday.

3 Make the best use of the arrangement
